I think it just may be a sign of shifting buying patterns. We spend as much as we ever did- we just spend online. I would not be surprised if most people do that now- it's convenient; you can comparison shop more easily, and you don't waste gasoline to drive somewhere you don't really want to go.

Our main street, on the other hand, which is basically a food/entertainment destination, is doing great. Our local mall isn't doing badly- and we don't have shops closing, but new business seems to be hopping in our downtown.

The internet killed the mall. Why go to a place where you're SURE you're going to pay too much for on an item, when you can get at a much better price without leaving your house?

We need an idea for what to do with those giant, enclosed spaces.
