Hi Area,

I spoke to a friend of mine who works in shipping operations for a larger tanker company and he explained to me that rates on most are high enough to cover operating expenses. Where interest is concerned, most banks give shippers a holiday on payments since it is better to allow the ship to run than take possession and try to sell it in a depressed market which gives me hope there is some support for continuing operating of ships.

As to your points about the dire supply situation, I think there might be glut for a year or two but you're probably buying at the bottom. Companies' main aim will be to conserve cash even if this means delaying or cancelling their orders with the shipyards and paying a one off penalty.
