Use of force against threats foreign or domestic is the actual core function, that's broader than just the military, but you were talking about military spending. Even if direct defense was the only core function (and its only part of it) it would still be done with the military budget (and CIA, NSA, FBI, etc.)

Where did I say "more"?

I pointed out that defense is and has been, declining as a portion of the budget. In other places on SI I've pointed out the decline as a percentage of GDP. If conservatives are all about promoting defense spending as you claim, they have been far less effective at it, then liberals have been at promoting their favored categories of spending.
