Well said Christine. I would barely change a word of what you said. I would add that virtually every American reporter covering the situation ther stays at the King David Hotel. I doubt if that is good for objective reporting.

I see that after a long rest, you are ready for a fight! And Mephisto was worried that we were posting stuff that was too controversial for you!

>How could all this really be a positive influence if it brings such evil with it?? There are very few Christians
following Christ's teachings, and the conservative, Bible Belt Christians in America are intolerant, bigoted,
narrow-minded and just plain mean-spirited in their belief systems, in my opinion.<

I share your belief that an awful lot of really bad behavior by individuals and groups gets sanitized and justified by a religious overlay. Chosen Few vs. worthless heathens and all that.
It's sorta hard for me to come up with a polite pro-Israel argument after all the stuff you presented. But I do have to give them my grudging admiration for having persisted and prospered in the midst of adversity. Success, or fait accompli, carries a certain rightepusness all its own.
But yes, the price has been neither low nor evenly paid. There sure does seem to be a very adversarial siege mentality in place among the older, bolder Israelis. This coupled witha strong sense of being the Aggrieved Party vis-a-vis Germany, even today after the generation that caused all the trouble is pushing up roses. A lot of duplicity at work here, neatly tucked under the carpet of a religious imperative.

>the Feelings thread...barely withstood the argument about handguns<
A little out of context, but I'm not sure I agree. While the topic brought some strong opinions out of the woodwork, I didn't see a hit upon the vitality of this thread. After all, this is the forum which healed unscarred after the Igpox! While a hot topic might roll like thunder through the thread for a week or so, soon we're back in the same soft snowfall of wellwishing and panning for the beauty in the mundane.
