It is not a byproduct of fiat money. The Fed could enact policies that ensured a stable currency for whatever reason they refuse. Plus remember their mandate is also to ensure full employment. I believe the two mandates are impossible to achieve simultaneously especially with the out of control legislature.

Speaking of 'fiat', I heard on the radio that the company that sponsored the infamous Clint Eastwood Superbowl commercial is 59% owned by Fiat. Much of the rest is owned by unions.
