Your average would be 3.98333333333333333. You take the shares, and multiply them by the price. Then, you add them up, cost to get 47800 and shares 12000, then divide the cost by shares: 47800/12000=3.983333333 That is, unless I am too drunk

On your broker portfolio it tells you what your cost is ... National discount posts your average automatically.

2000 shares @ 2.65 = $5300.00 (plus commission)
10000 @ 4.25. = $42,500.00 ( Plus commission)

total investment $47,800.00 / 12000 shares = $3.98 AMSC
