That dictionary definition describes a liberal to the tee.

Nonsense. Its far too complex to fit in a dictionary definition.

Better would be an encyopedia article (although of course even that would be a simplification)

Liberalism is a major historical grouping of different thoughts, that then developed in different directions. Its a complex historical, social, economic, political, and philosophical grouping of things, that's meant different things at different times and places. To think you can sum it up in a dictionary definition is silly.

Just becase you are a liberal, as you define the term, doesn't make you an expert, or someone that people should defer to, on the history and complex web of phisiophical ideas labeled liberalism.

The same goes for conservative (it is also complex, with some meanings that can be contradictory in some contexts, if perhaps not has often as "liberal"/"liberalism", and one wouldn't reasonably defer to someone on its meaning just because they are a conservative.

Even small subsets of each are far to complex to be properly defined by a dictionary.
