One, the end-of-the-world and Rapture myth that depends on Israel and two, that Jews tend to be out-of-proportion toward liberalism and breaking through injustices, prejudices and ignorance while questioning power. Some people sit on lordly soapboxes in their tiny minds don't they ? That prolly flew right over his head with the rest of the finely tuned, tiny winged angels & demons that flutter about constantly in his mind . That there was enough rational secular basis for belief in seeing a country established (replete with their own whackos like here ) and to preserve themselves against constant attacks , this self serving holy strawman of "Christians for Israel" is founded upon just that, preservation for themselves some myth of rapture & the Holy Land . What is truth about all this self righteous lipservice about tolerance for the Jews was bequeathed only grudgingly and took the many changes by liberal secularizing influences . The basic Christian position all along was allowing for the unbelieving, spiritually blind messiahless Jews to return to their land as fulfillment of some imagined prophecy but just for the tremendous guilt of their decimation alone plus at least their "___" was imagined to be more linearly alligned with the Christian deity than the foreign muslim Allah , thus proving some other imagined thing dating back to the Crusades as coming true. Wonderful when the world is run by prophecy & Jerry Falwell messiahs , but the object lesson here is that prophecy & religion had little to do with any of it , but a sense of justice & reason & people having a homeland did .
