Apple Recon has been printing so much crap lately that I no longer give any credibility to anything the guy says.

MacWin98 in 2 years? Even with his disclaimer that it is a rumor I still find it distasteful. I'll bet my money on vaporware COS before MacWin98. In terms of technology and the market demand it makes little sense.

First of all Mac has about a 5% market share in the personal computer business. Hardly a profitable nitch for a giant like MS. Furthermore, every Mac comes with MacOS which is superior to any Windows by any standards. With little if any advantage over the MacOS, MSFT wouldn't even dare dreaming of penetrating the market with a Mac port of its pathetic Windows.

One of the inherent streangth of the Mac is the elegant, tight integration of hardware and the operating system. With ASIC and Mac ROM, the Mac hardware is designed to run Mac software. It would be difficult for MS to achieve the same level of integration on the Mac. In addition current Mac applications which assumes the presence of Mac API and utilities like QuickDraw 3D would not run.

If MSFT killed WindowsNT 5.0 for PowerPC CHRP do you think they would make Windows 98 run on a generic Mac?
