That is where you are making your mistake thinking it is a specific philosophy. Probably because conservatives believe according to scripts e.g. religion, ethnicity, culture, family tradition; and that goes for any conservative anywhere in the world.

And they all fight against the liberal because live in an existential world pretty much devoid of script per se. You won't find very many liberals in the middle east, or Africa or even Asia. Europe and Scandanavian countries have the most liberals.

And what keeps our philosophy tied together, in the seeming chaos of existentialism, is our common agreement on science and freedom of expression.

Liberalism has never changed, just the manifestations of it that come with cultural evolution.
