There is nothing sacred about a coding system. Today's DNA coding system is very complex... and powerful. But, it can be simplified, most likely using RNA.

The basic idea for the coding system is a form of RNA that under the right conditions, can replicate itself. That's all that is required.

We hypothesize it can be done. They big question is "How did it happen the first time".

One of today's mysteries is what was the first coding system that could self replicate? A secondary question is "What is the simplest coding system for self replication".

Given the 3D nature of RNA and the mechanical, chemical and electrical nature of the RNA components, it is a complex problem for us to solve today. But advances in our knowledge will figure it out.

As for natural processes, the activities of high energy components acting randomly for a large period of time produced an RNA molecule that was able to reproduce itself. From there, incremental improvements were made.
