Maybe I am reading more into this data than I should but assume for every 1000 Asian students applying for med school there are only 50 Black students (I have no idea what the correct numbers are). At the highlighted acceptance rates you would get about 300 Asian med students and 42 Black med students, a 7 to 1 ratio. The Black students are going to go to the best school they can, meaning the best schools suck up the most Black applicants which were in short supply to begin with.

This seems to be confirmed when reviewing the lowest scores shown on the chart, which we could refer to as the "dumb" applicants. Dumb Asians were accepted 7% of the time (probably all legacy kids or with parents that donated a ton of money behind the scenes) but Dumb Blacks were accepted 63% of the time. To me this indicates some med schools are desperate to get a Black student into their program. They simply can't be seen as all Asian/White programs and they'll dip as low as necessary to make their program appear whatever it is they want it to appear. Is this fair? Not really, but I can see why it might happen. Med schools have to live in a PC world just like the rest of us.

Bottom line: It's a great time to be alive for a smart or even average Black student interested in Medicine. They simply will not be denied because there are so few.

Note: This is all off the top of my head (my opinion after thinking about if for a moment) so if anyone has real facts and numbers feel free to just blow this off and tell the true story.
