I looked at OSTK a little a while back because of the WTM connection, but I did not understand the business or valuation and in general do not have trust in retailers that they will do well for a long time, so I passed. Patrick is clearly quite a guy. The problem with people so intelligent and compelling and reasonable sounding is that it is difficult for normal people to tell when they go off the rails. I noticed that his father, Jack Byrne, joined the OSTK board and then quit a short time later because he thought Patrick was spending too much time on other things.

In principal I aspire to invest the way you do..it is the system I think works..find true masters and copy them when their picks get cheap. But I am lazy and also bad at valuations, so it seems easier and safer to do less than more. Also I only have a medium rare set of nerves. When things get bad--usually the best time to be active--I tend to concentrate on other things. The nice thing is that you don't have to make the game any harder than you want.

I will take a look at the Byrne movie, which is bound to be entertaining. I saw a good quote the other day, speaking of entertaining, which said that financial journalism is part of the entertainment business. Very true!
