Nixon actually did try to do what he thought was best for America, while not obsessing over his "enemies". Another thing I can recall him doing is instituting wage and price controls in an attempt to control inflation. Can you imagine what would occur if Obama froze wages and prices in EVERY private enterprise in the country!

The Democratic Congress gave Nixon the authority to impose wage and price controls and essentially dared him to use it. He called their bluff and did so. It was a lot like Clinton being induced by a Republican Congress to balance the federal budget. Those gambits co-opted the opposition and both presidents were re-elected.

That really is something to imagine. What would hyperbolic gasbags like Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity say?

I think the House would begin impeachment proceedings.
