If I have someone in my office who is violent and wants to kill everybody...
I didn't say he was running around the office with a gun. He was threatening to do so.

Guess I don't know what you mean by "violent". I could simply ignore some jerk threatening to kick my ass, but if he struck me, I do have some right to self-defense against actual violence. The original thread was about authorizing the president to assassinate people without a trial, and if you think it's fine for the president to do that because someone "wants to kill", we might as well flush the whole Constitution and the concept of due process down the drain. You seem like the sort that Franklin meant when he said, "Those who sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither."

Gitmo is a cancer all right. But then when Obama wanted those folks tried in a US court, not a single politician wanted that trial to take place in their state. "Not in my backyard" was the general chorus. so you have any suggestions what should be done when all are madly yelling against it and when when Obama holds their "feet to the fire", they have no solution. Can you articulate a solution instead of a criticism?

I just wish Obama would show some leadership and fulfill his promise to close Guantanamo (which he could do unilaterally in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief):

And we should turn that whole base back over to Cuba, as we did with Subic Bay in the Philippines (which the U.S. took from Spain at the same time as Cuba) and Okinawa (which the U.S. took from Japan).

You say, "not a single politician" wanted some trial, but here's Dick Durbin, Obama's co-senator from IL, saying he'd be happy to move those detainees to his state:
