John could be referring to Nixon's successful, treasonous intervention in the '68 Paris Peace talks.

I had actually forgotten that one. I'm not certain I want to thank you for reminding me. It's such a deeply sad portion of our national past and the deceptions were so many and so deep, that it's not even the slightest stretch to insist that Nixon's entire Vietnam "strategy" such that it was was based on deceptions.

By promising Thieu a better deal later (after the election), Nixon ruined the chance for a much
earlier end to the war.

And then Mr. Reagan's team did the same kind of thing with the Iranians and the hostages, promising to sell Iran arms if they hung on to the hostages until Reagan was inaugurated.

Yeah, the RW is a piece of work all right. Such patriots, lol.

What sickness at the heart of this exceptional country.

The Vietnamese never were going to compromise with us anyhow. Remember all those weeks discussing the size of the conference table.

To call what Nixon did treasonous (telling Thieu to wait) is nothing more than him wanting to shape the end of the war---which was a false hope. I'll revise this opinion if you have any evidence the Vietnamese where going to accept a LBJ peace offer.

PS: Was there with you in 68.
