To be honest, I sort of remember it as being common knowledge at the time? There was so much red baiting by the Republican's it was terrible. Remember that was why we were in Viet Nam. The right wing was real worried about China and used it to keep the war going. Anyone on the left who wanted to make friends with any communist country at the time was considered a traitor. The right has always pulled that shit on we lefties. They just move from issue to issue. Today they are castigating Obama for not supporting Israel bombing Iran. It has never stopped.
