You make a valid point, John. It isn't impossible at all or never done at all to bring in another or a new programmer into a project. Once up to speed, there's no difference in the productive capability of those involved if both/all are equally capable. My original comment could have been worded better I guess, as I really only meant that I've seen the same situation - where just one programmer worked on a particular project.

Just don't add programmers before deadlines. Adding manpower to a late software project makes it later (aka. The Mythical Man-Month)
