I agree with the following completely.

You know as much as you go on about the "loony" left I could equally go on about the "righteous" right (as opposed to the "rational" right). Both sides have lead our country to the precipice. We are in the position wherein we can help each other climb to safer ground or individually fall and thus collectively topple.

The choice is on both our shoulders.

As for the following:

He tried. Your party didn't want to compromise--which after all is the "art" of politics. They chooses to make a stand. Now we see the results.

I submit we have no idea if he tried. If you can show me what he proposed - I have never seen it - I might agree with you. Perhaps it is all just smoke to make those on the left who actually care about the nation think they can still believe in Obama.

All that said - I submit to you that Barack Obama is the president and not just a candidate. As the president he took an oath of office to do the job as leader. I submit to you he has not lead on fiscal sanity and that he is far more comfortable making promises to those who so desperately want to believe than making the hard fiscal decisions of governing.

I further submit to that if he actually lead on this issue he would skate to reelection with acclamation. His failure to lead makes asking what his true agenda is a legitimate question.
