Here's a broad list of cable modem manufacturers/vendors (it's about a year old so some decided to get out of the business or were taken over--I'll leave it to someone else to update it):
ADC Telecom, Alcatel, Alexon, COCOM, Com21/3Com, Next Level Systems(after General Instrments split up), Fore, HP, Hybrid Networks(think they bailed out), IBM, BayNetworks (via LANcity acq), Motorola, NetComm, Nortel/Arris, Panasonic, Phasecom, Pioneer, Scientific Atlanta, Toshiba, Terayon, Tytec, West End Systems, Zenith.
I'm sure there are others. The current concentration is on MCNS compliant systems for the US market, but don't be fooled by the first to market game (with telco upstream), e.g. 3com/US Robotics (I don't think that will fly, but just my opinion). Perhaps the leaders in this area will be the chipset manufacturers, since it's a much smaller playing field. Unfortunately, most aren't public companies YET. In this area, Broadcom (to go public early next year last I heard), COM21 (not public yet), Stanford Telecom, Phasecom, and LIBIT (based in Israel) are the primary beneficiaries (in order of my perceived market position at the present time--could change 3 months from now). Broadcom is virtually a pure play, they have some impressive alliances and market leadership--I'll be watching them very closely.
From the set-top box arena, again zillions of manufacturers--I'm concentrating on the Silicon again. This can be broken down a number of different ways, and the list here is massive also. I'll submit this list sometime in the near future. Gotta go.

Hi Jim, the "modem mfger's" are actually ethernet interface card vendors like Bay, COMS, etc. No interest there for me. It has been expressed that you should buy a PCI bis nic and if you aren't afraid of opening the backplane, installing it yourself. But the margins are too thin and the capacity too great to male money in this hardware aspect. CVC, maybe. Hope they aren't taking TCI's wait-and-see attitude. I'm thinking more in terms of obscure companies whose expectations have not been factored by this bold notion.

ANTC might be a possibility. Anyone want to take on this baby for study?

Also, in my complete review of this thread I ferreted out RITTF. Probably I got to struggle with that one because its f - foreign (Isreali). Another is WEBB, any takers? I have no idea whether these are even in the biz.
