Andy that's exactly what the article was hinting. LSI should be one of the "glory" boys. They would however go into the graveyard if they do not come up with a way of doing those high density designs efficiently and cheaply and ramping up their idle fabs.

(Interesting point: With their much faster than average growth in consumer electronics chips which presumably require very high density designs LSI is showing that they have the right stuff to compete in the high density area as long as high volume production justifies the initial cost of design. If they only do the designs cheaply so that could go after smaller volume designs maybe they'd be booming now.)

Don't know if Corrigan is trying to scare off potential competitors.
