Because of their passion, tenacity and determination, I think they were considered more like radicals..........although I'm sure looney also came up in normal conversation.

If the people who founded the country were around today they would be considered the lunatic fringe

The people who won America for us were not the majority of the early settlers of this country. They were people who believed in Liberty and Freedom. King George didn't like them either. He must have considered these upstarts the fringe group.

We are d*mn lucky and fortunate that we had the likes of George Washington, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Alexander Hamilton and all the rest of these " lunatic fringe" men and women to win the battles for us, at great personal sacrifice and expense to themselves and their families.
