Seems to me the british brought slavery to the colonies Yeah, one of my ancestors, William Munroe, had the temerity to get caught by Cromwell in 1651 after Worcestor and shipped in irons and indentured servitude to Massachusetts. Not quite the Virginia whip, but involuntary, nonetheless.

Yes, of course it was only a short time difference and slavery and general carnage were popular around the world everywhere when the planet operated on tribal, breed, kill, or be killed Malthusian principles. Nevertheless, Wilberforce was ahead of the game, albeit by only a decade or three: en.wikipedia.org One of the amusing things about slavery, which never seem to get much press, is that the likes of Obama's ancestors were the sellers of slaves. All societies back in the day had spare young males with no land and not much in the way of prospects. What the heck to do with them was quite an issue. Sending them over the horizon to kill neighbouring tribes was always popular. Civil war was far less attractive. Selling them as slaves was not a bad option either and quite profitable. China right now has such a 'surplus young male' problem. With the female infanticide [foetal mainly] and one child policy, there is something like 100 million of the blighters feeling edgy and stroppy, with no girlfriend/wife, no children and not 100% happy. Hey, I've got an idea. Why not tell them Americans are evil-doers and they need to take back Taiwan and maybe parts of Russia and stabilize the west and maybe the south, such as the Indian border. The South China Sea too. How about a Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere? They are well on the way to taking over New Zealand, by migration and repeating what the English did in NZ 150 years ago - buy the place with some spare cash. I have a half-Chinese grandson, Wai Ying, and my job is to teach him mandarin, so the process is well underway. Mqurice PS: I admit to a bit of chain-yanking there [regarding the slavery].
