It's my guess that you are a bit more 'seasoned', but I suspect we grew up in far different areas.....In the deep south of my youth there were still grudges held over from the Civil War and bad thoughts towards Lincoln and his party......There were many conservative folks that called themselves democrats.....not too many Barney Franks or northeastern thought patterns in the winds. The alignments and parties are far more clear today, it seems to me.....The embarrassing public stands of most modern lefties would have never won elections with that generation of southern 'democrats'.
