I'm guessing that Connally ran as a conservative and winning the primary was the biggest part of being governor of Texas then.......Right? When Claude Kirk won Florida in 66 or 67 running as something other than a democrat, you would have thought the martians had landed.....all politicians should be watched as closely as he was.....being a conservative was generally the key to political success, but it surely took a while for the party labeling change to settle in across south.
