2/24/12 Contest Update
An FDA panel’s 20-2 thumbs up for Vivus’s weight-loss drug provided a weight gain for four Contest portfolios. And the VVUS vote, along with good news for a few other biotechs, helped maintain the Contest median’s outperformance.
At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 22.75% YTD (vs. up 21.77% YTD a week ago). In comparison, the NBI was up 14.39% YTD (vs. up 13.91% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index was up 13.77% YTD (vs. up 13.31% YTD a week ago).
GENE’s portfolio, up 44.10% YTD, got the Gold with a superb DSCO toss. With 15% allocated to VVUS, BIOJIM’s portfolio, up 40.28% YTD, took the Silver and DON’s portfolio, up 39.09% YTD, took the Bronze.
At Friday's close, all 38 Contest portfolios remained in the black, with even the poorest performing portfolio up 4.58% YTD. And 28 of the 38 portfolios were doing better than the NBI.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks ranked by % Gained and % Lost for the week.
And I’m again posting the YTD (using 12/30/11 closing prices) Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks ranked by % Gained and % Lost.
(Foreign stock prices are not converted to US$ in the weekly and YTD Top 5 & Bottom 5 tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: None
Have a terrific weekend biotechies!
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits, greatly appreciated.)
