Rommey won't have anything close to the Obama money

He won't but this is the election of the super-PAC. The Romney super-PAC and the Obama super-PAC will both have massive funds. Remember that all the Gingrich money is in his super-PAC and due to the large donations of his casino sugar daddy. Watch for much more of that.
The real beneficiary will be the media companies that will take in record amounts for political advertising. We'll be very tired of it all by early November.

Could it be that people are holding back on contributions until the winner for the President becomes obvious?

I am looking at the state campaigns being the ones in need of contributions at this time.
The races for the House and Senate are essential to win.

With strongly financed state elections by local donors---------the super pacs can concentrate on the National
campaign------- now and after the Pres. and VP are named.
