I couldn't handle that either. I went to a Cowboy Poetry show in 2010 when the census was going on. One of the presenters said he got a temp job in the census office, but it was nothing like that at all. I think he just had to sit around and talk to people when they came in. I'm going to study up on wasp spray. The advantage is it squirts a long way so you can get somebody at a safe distance. I don't know what effect it has on the person who gets sprayed, but I'm guessing it would be more dangerous to his health than mace. Maybe not worse than a firearm for him, but who knows? In our citizen's patrol we are allowed wasp spray and bear spray but not weapons. I haven't seen an instance where either was needed, but time will tell.

Memories-----I received a mailing in Nebraska inviting me to apply for a spring job to be a census taker. Got the job--------it was a piece of cake until----I went to this one house in the suburbs of Omaha. A man really tough looking man answered the door-----------when he found I was a census worker. He cussed out the process and calmed down and apologize for cussing to me and refused to fill in the form. I mouthed something like I know how you feel---------but it didnt any good. My last experience as a census taker. Today , I would do the same--------I would never give anyone info who came to my door saying they were census taker. Give me the form and I'll mail it.
