In tropical regions... maybe.

Tropical reservoirs certainly produce much more methane than temperate reservoirs, but the total annual output of all reservoirs is estimated at 1/3 of all annual human made green house gases. If you believe a significant reduction in green house gases is important, it is only logical that all hydroelectric reservoirs should be decommissioned and replaced by nuclear. That alone would be THE single largest reduction in green house gas emissions. Also, the footprint for all hydroelectric reservoirs is HUGE, no matter where they are located. The eco system destruction and "footprint" by hydroelectric reservoirs is second only to agriculture.
