Is it economics or social policy that prevents America from becoming energy independent

I don't disagree with anything that you said, but it is too subtle for a campaign. The social issues, such as cheap energy vs global warming are complex and divisive. People have defensible positions on both sides. On the economy, people disagree about the right solution, but no sane person can deny that it is our biggest problem. A candidate who can articulate a credible plan to reduce the deficits and increase employment will win. No other issue comes close. Remember, the election will not be decided by deep thinkers who research the issues and candidates, but by semi-literates who decide based on 30 sec tv commercials.
