The General election is a long way off. First the candidate needs to wing the Republican nomination. If Romney spent more time talking about Obama and less time attacking his opponents, he would engender greater support from the Republican base.

General elections are not won by catering to the center wishy-washy voters. Elections are won by motivating the base of the party. Romney needs to figure that out and figure it out fast. To be this far behind in his "home state" this close to the primary is a sign he may not be ready.

Despite Santorum's Senate loss, he would make Pennsylvania very competitive in the general election. Bringing Pennsylvania's electoral votes into play is something we shouldn't overlook. I doubt Romney brings Massachusetts with him.
