Most Republicans don't believe making people dependent on government helps them out of poverty. Our poverty rate is now at an all-time high almost 50 years after Johnson declared a "war on poverty". Johnson was also quoted as saying, "I'll have those ni%$@@s voting Democratic for the next 200 years" after signing welfare into law. Being dependent on government is no better than being a slave of a different sort IMO.
