Snowy, VVV are about voluntary interactions of an honest nature. There seems to have been swindling going on. NZ does NOT operate on VVV principles. It has become a heavily bludger-based society with kleptocracy rampant and crime the norm. But walking off the ship is likely a bit of wishful thinking - "Hey, let's abandon ship in NZ and enjoy that great good life living on the taxpayer we hear so much about." < Finally, Yusril and 23 others walked off in protest when the trawler docked in Lyttleton, New Zealand.>

If the crew does not like their contract or actual conditions, they can take it up with the legal system of their employers [Korea in that case] or their country [Indonesia].

It would be a good idea to refuse to sign up with Korean companies if they treat employees like that. Word will no doubt be out among the Indonesians and the Korean ships will have to hire somebody else, if they can.

Media love a good sob story. To call it slavery is silly. Slaves would be simply chucked overboard or properly thrashed with a whip and paid with a bit of food. When language is distorted to make things look terrible, it means there isn't really all that much if described in normal words. Of course when a ship is at sea, one is not free to quit on the spot and walk off the job. Well, one is free to do so, but the water makes it problematic. So it's not like regular life on shore.

MQ text reading interpretation: Indonesians want free load into NZ. When someone reads a text and it has meaning for them, (MQ is a N. Zealander and knows the NZ system) they can clearly explain what is the real issue behind a journalistic page.

A 'page reading machine' could not do that what MQ did.
