When they said "Freedom OF Religion" they meant that the STATE should not decide WHICH religion or lack thereof was right.

If I want to worship elm trees the government shouldn't be able to stop me if I don't infringe on other people in doing so.

If you go back to about 200 AD when Christianity was in its infancy you hear the story of Pleny who was a Roman governor or something and he came across some Christians. Christians were relatively new and unknown at the time. Pleny wrote to the Emperor and said, "I've got these people that call themselves Christians. Their religion seems to require them to be honest and charitable so I can't find anything really wrong with them but locals say these Christians won't follow our LAWS and make sacrifices to the Gods as people are required to do. I've decided to allow the Christians to either follow OUR laws or be killed."

The Emperor thought that was a pretty good decision.

When I hear Santorum speak about HIS religion and abortion and contraception and even prenatal tests I get the feeling that he might be just like Pleny in dealing with people that didn't follow HIS laws.

My problem with Santorum is NOT that he can't follow whatever religion he wants....it's that he doesn't want me to follow MINE....
