In 2009, Simon Hughes MP, and now deputy leader of the Lib Dems said: "World leaders must work towards a treaty that will outlaw tar sands extraction, in the same way they came together to ban land mines, blood diamonds and cluster bombs."

Blood diamonds were an invention of the De Beers mafia to try and dry up placer diamond production from Sierra Leone. The mafia always called diamonds not controlled by the CSO as illicit stones. I am always surprised that politicians are so easily bought and people so easily led.
