You mean Lady Grantham's maid, O'Brien. She's mean and could quite possibly be responsible. Remember, she felt awful for having caused the Lady to miscarry after she put the soap next to the bathtub and she slipped and lost the baby. Then she found out that she was wrong about the Lady looking for a new maid. Very good possibility. Nobody except Thomas is that mean.

Of course, there was Sir Richard who paid her off so she wouldn't reveal what she knew about Bates. Maybe she was about to reveal something about Sir Richard.

She's Lady Grantham's maid. She is friends with Thomas who smokes all the time. I don't think she is that devious - she really cares for her mistress.
