Most everything in life is a cost trade off analysis of benefits vs. downsides. IMHO, we (as a community of nations) should try to do what we reasonably can to offset the risk of massive methane release as there are so many projected downsides to it by those in a position to know--in terms of the potential of raising the earth's temperature and causing us lots of (economic) dislocations at the least. What specific things that would be I don't know. Expertise is needed. Maybe they don't know either at this stage. For sure careful monitoring
of the situation is to be ordered up.

On the other hand, as far as I know we can't reasonably, in terms of price, or within the limits of our technology, protect ourselves yet against a massive meteor strike and/or volcanoes or numerous other catastrophes so until such day as we can--we just have to drive on.
