Nadine, I will be the first to admit that computers have generated huge productivity gains in the word processing field in the past 15 years or so. Remember the huge rooms filled with typists typing on those mechanical monsters getting ribbon ink on their hands and faces? A company with 1000 employees that needed to have 100 typists now has 2000 employees with maybe 15 word processors.

The productivity gains in the beginning were huge leaps and bounds. However, today the increases are more like baby steps.

Could you or anyone else tell me how much more efficient a secretary using Word for Windows version 2.0, which came out about 5 years ago, would be if she upgraded to the latest Word for Windows95 version 7.0?
How many more 3 page letters would she/he be able to type in a 8 hour day?

Companys are being conned into buying newer faster computers but they never tell you how much more work your employees will be able to turn out in a 8 hour day.

Jim

PS, Why is Radio Shack using an old DOS text based business program on their store computers and selling us Pentium II computers? Why are'nt they using Pentiums and Windows?
