And then I listened to the 1979 and 2008 versions on the YouTube sidebar. Straight and sober, I liked them better without the 'ludes. Take me back 4+ decades, at 3 a.m., and I would've been all over the Isle of Wight performance. I was a high school sophomore at the time, totally dependent on radio and vinyl. "Bird on the Wire" played on the local FM station occasionally, as did "Suzanne" and that utterly strange and fascinating "Story of Isaac." But this kid never made it to Woodstock, much less the Isle of Wight.
