[GTE File Implies Battle Over MCI Not Yet Over]

Hi Steve,

Re: <<Posting this feels almost pointless...>>

I know how you feel--but apparently some of us are as stubborn as GTE. Actually I'm resigned to go on to greener pastures, but I'm conditioned to look for the silver lining. sg

Phillips Business Information for Bloomberg News

In a filing at the Securities and Exchange Commission, GTE Corp. said it is "continuing to monitor the situation" related to the potential WorldCom Inc./MCI Communications Corp. merger and may "reevaluate its position". In mid-October, GTE made a $28 billion cash offer for MCI, but MCI subsequently decided to accept a bid from WorldCom.
ÿÿÿÿÿÿ GTE said among the factors it is monitoring is the stock performance of WorldCom and MCI, the financial results of MCI, and the status of the "regulatory approval process."
ÿÿÿÿÿÿ In addition, GTE indicated in its filing that the relocation of its corporate headquarters will remain on hold. Originally, GTE had planned to move its headquarters to Dallas, but had suggested a willingness to change its plans and relocate to Washington, where MCI is headquartered, should a merger be finalized. GTE added, however, that it would continue to consolidate staff functions through 1998.
