And they have no done a good job for instance I caught a nasty computer worm from Facebook and I did read in the W.S.J. that Facebook was giving out worms left and right. They were not even computer enough savy to keep worms off.

So I had to get my son to defrag my entire hard drive. ands then re-install everything. No fun that for christs sake.

and this worm caused my Email to send out obscene message to many folks including some extended family people etc etc

<< But not these guys who own and run Facebook. They are malevolent morons that just happened to be in the right place at the right time>>

They're a little more savvy than that. Facebook got big by starting small. By initially limiting who could join its site (one campus at a time), FB got users to reveal their real identities. And without real identities, FB would have ended up like MySpace, where the profiles and communities were fake and therefore much less valuable to advertisers.

Still, I think that FB is just a glorified Yahoo. The bulk of its money will come from display advertising. And, at least in the US, time spent on the site is likely near a peak. Everyone in the US who wants to be on FB is probably already on FB and spending a ton of time on the site. So for FB to make money, it will likely have to show more ads, which will negatively impact the user experience and perhaps cause users to spend less time on the site.

Also, I wonder whether at some point there will be a backlash from corporations. I know some companies already block employees from using FB at work. If more companies follow this lead (which I think they should), usage could take a hit.
