Zeuspaul: Excellent link in your post. The writer makes a powerful case that global warming is not something to worry about at the moment.

Fuel cells produce less CO2 than conventional sources, only because they are more efficient. Plenty is still produced, and as a fellow pointed out on the Ballard thread, plenty is produced in the production of hydrogen, giving lie to the claim that fuel cells that run on pure hydrogen are better than those which run on hydrocarbons. techstocks.com

ERC's fuel cells run on natural gas. With cogeneration, ERC believes that efficiency will come in north of 80%, which means it will create less CO2 relative to the amount of electricity created than an old coal fired unit doing 25%.

In addition, because fuel cells don't burn the fuel, there are virtually no oxides of sulfer or nitrogen produced. Those chemicals aren't blamed for global warming, I don't think, but they do help cause acid rain and smog.
