What are you talking about? The issue is not an all or none issue... think outside the box... if people could shop for the best rates on their own across State lines, then the coverage for those with pre-existing conditions would also be lower... right now, the government is forcing two false choices and for that reason their argument is completely dishonest... the government doesn't care about you personally, they only want to run private health care insurance companies out of business... and they'll run health care the way they run the postal service, losing $6 billion every year due to government stupidity and mismanagement... if you think government knows better than you, then you should be happy with their policies...

Most states currently have high risk insurance pools. An insurance company logically is not afraid to decline an individual application. Risk assessment makes it clear that the applicant will not benefit the company in most cases, and in fact will probably hurt the company should they choose to accept the application. It does not matter where you apply as an individual.

A system is in place in most areas to help the high risk and we are paying for it. There is no way getting around it. If insurance is to be provided to the high risk, that cost will be built into our costs no matter what.
