Sergio,

>>In your opinion, was this a trick by SALB?<<

Most of the "tricks" I've been able to discern have to do with a prominent seller pulling his ask and going to best bid to lure people into thinking he's done selling, or visa versa. Before you know it there he is again, selling like crazy. I would guess that it was not a trick in this case, since he's still selling. There is no way to tell what these guys are up to, with our limited information. Sometimes they are just representing someone's limit order, and they cancel. I would think it is especially hard to judge behavior on thinly traded stocks.

Knowing who the prominent sellers and buyers have been certainly helps though. Knowing SALB is big player in the stock, you should pay attention when he moves. Unfortunately, MASH, the other big player, was the other MM and I see he's still there, at 7 1/8 now.

For me, the biggest value of watching level II is that it helps you decide when you might be able to get price improvement, or if you need to just hit the ask or bid. Trying to discern the reasons for MM movement is usually beyond my abilities.
