"Long on Ideas, Short on Wares -- Scott Kriens, CEO, Juniper Networks"

(November 24, 1997)
Juniper Networks Inc. has no products-yet. But president and CEO Scott
Kriens believes the company has technology to make the Internet faster,
smarter and more reliable. And he's convinced heavy hitters such as Ericsson,
Newbridge Networks, Northern Telecom, Siemens, 3Com and WorldCom
Inc. to invest. Associate editor Jeff Caruso visited Kriens in Mountain View,
Calif., to find out what attracts that kind of attention.

InternetWeek: You've gotten investments of $40 million from some of the
biggest names in networking. What will they get from their investment?

Kriens: They have partial ownership in Juniper and distribution rights to our
products.
We will also work with them individually to accomplish product
and technology integration so that we can be elements within the product
families that they represent and/or the geographies or customer bases they
cover. The outcome with each partner will be different.
