not sure if the government is really desperate of if it is confident it is in control of its situation and simply espousing its political doctrine. getting kind of scary. anyone know when elections are due?

All the diversionary tactics being employed suggest the government is getting desperate. They either fear losing power or are about to do something highly unpopular, like enormous price increases to the subsidized economy.

England is public whipping boy #1. YPF is public whipping boy #2. I think they are searching for more whipping boys.

The gas transmission utility went bankrupt a few years ago from government price controls. They don't seem to mind ordering people to do things which don't make economic sense.
