Well, if we keep killing the planet and other species at an ever accelerating rate, eventually we'll ruin it for ourselves as well. In Tokyo, streetcorner vendors used to sell oxygen hits to pedestrians, the pollution was so bad.
I think that's changed now, but can technology keep up? What happens when technology fails?

Mass starvation has been predicted many times since Malthus. But, every time technology had stepped up and prevented it. Can we count on that for 14 billion humans?
