My three tips last week came from my dental hygenist, my gardner and a floor installer. The floor installer insisted that the market could not go down. When I asker him what stocks he owns he told me "INTC". i said "you mean Intel". He said " no, INTC. The name of my stock is INTC". He then told me he had no idea what they do but he bought it because his brother-in-law told him to. He only knows his stocks as symbols!!

Hearing his answers to my questions was like the sound of fingernails on a chaulkboard.

The worst part was when he said to me "well,we'll have to just keep it going up."

>A cabbie, a waiter and worst of all the pool maintenance guy.

careful there. it is possible that someone who works with their hands for a living may have a brain and even a good idea or two.

ps -- where do you eat that your waiter gives you stock tips? securities never enter into the conversation when i order food.

Hey Cowboy,

That IS a surefire contrarian sign.

And I have to laugh when I see and hear things in my broker's office on a daily basis where people are just dumping all of everything into the markets... really clueless wonders.

Not to say WE have any better handle on things, but at least we know part of the vocabulary and can APPEAR like we do! (Remember, these are the people who have been right through this entire bull market, so I really shouldn't say anything!!!)

Regards,

Bill

Mohan kidded me recently for talking too much about BEARX on his thread, but like you I am glad to be on the short side, even if the world does not end tomorrow. I have been waiting out a much-delayed rollover into an IRA and finally got it all into Prudent Bear as of the close on Friday. Next week I will be at a niece's wedding in Chicago and there may be a lot of banking/investment types. I'll have to bite my tongue--if the market tanks I will be unwelcome and if it doesn't I'll be thought an idiot.
