I don't see why a religious organization shouldn't be free to engage in anything whether it's making pews, running a hospital, apartment complex, heck, anything.

When did I ever suggest that anyone shouldn't be free to engage in anything? How could you infer that my libertarian self would ever consider such a thing. There is a difference between prohibited from doing something and that something not being advisable.

And I know of an old age home run by a Jewish religious organization. Is a retirement home "big business" and not a role a religious organization ought to be in? Come to think of it, there's also a Jewish health club nearby ... more role mixing.

That's perfectly appropriate. They're lending a helping hand to their constituency and building community. That's one of the things that religions do and have always done and will always do.

I have to assume at this point that you are just pulling my leg by continuing this tack. You cannot possibly be so blinded or so dim as to not see the difference between that and going into business selling product to all comers in competition with other industry players.
