Alan:

This indeed is the fear: If their financial institutions become forced to sell off their overseas holdings, then we are all in trouble, big time. We have to wait and see.

FWIW: I heard a financial analyst say, the U.S. S&L crisis was huge,
but the current Japanese banking problems are probably ten times more severe.

The Japanese government had said last week that they would finally deal with the problem, but I don't know if they have any credibility left. The Neike did however, rally last week on the news, but we will have to see what happens in the long run.
